Programme Winter 2010

Welcome back after the Christmas break and especially to the six new cubs joining us this term.

From this January we have decided to run a senior section of the troop for those  older scouts who will be commencing their last year in the troop. They will be starting work on their Gold Award and have a largely separate programme, some of which I hope will be of their own design. The senior scout group will be; Philip Cooper, Ben Seamer, Tom Hastings, Loren Parker, Elizabeth Taylor, Oliver Heaviside, John Roberts, Josh Farah, Oliver Hutton and Harvey Nimmo.

Because of the numbers in the troop (36 by Easter) and the fact that we have decided not to start another troop at this stage, we shall be approaching parents to boost the leadership team; I do not envisage asking people to take out warrants but for individuals who could come along as a helper on perhaps two or three troop nights a term.  I already have some “volunteers” in mind - if you re interested please contact me as it will be necessary to arrange some CRB checks.

The details of this years camping activities are as follows so you can plan your holidays accordingly!

19-21 Feb        Freezer Camp at Hesley Woods; we do not encourage scouts to come on this if they have not camped with the troop before due to the time of year this event is put on.

16-18 April      PL training camp; This will only be available to older scouts who are PLs or SPLs and will be run by Sheaf District .

1-3 May          District camp; open to all and to be held at Sherbrook a scout centre in Nottinghamshire.

25-27 June      Rother Valley Splashdown; the ever popular water activity weekend is open to all scouts.

24-31 July       Summer Camp; the venue is yet to be chosen but we are currently thinking of an event with a water activity theme. This is a traditional week long camp which sees the scouts camping in patrols and cooking on open fires etc interspersed with other adventurous activities off site.

More information will be mailed out nearer the time, if you want to discuss any of the camps or require more information in the meantime please get in touch with one of the leaders.
